Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership. The primary purpose of the fellowship is to stay sober and to help other alcoholics stay sober. AA can help in the following ways:

  • Encouraging following the AA's 12 step method.
  • Organising meetings in many locations throughout the country.
  • Supplying literature and booklist, contact the above address for details.
  • Publishing Roundabout magazine.

Ring the above national helpline number for details of local groups.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
