The Health Protection Agency is an independent organisation dedicated to protecting people's health in the United Kingdom. They do this by providing impartial advice and authoritative information on health protection uses to the public, to professionals and to government.

They combine public health and scientific expertise, research and emergency planning within one organisation. They work at international, national, regional and local levels and have many links with many other organisations around the world. This means that they can respond quickly and effectively to new and existing national and global threats.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
