The National Blind Children's Society (NBCS) supports blind and visually impaired children and their families. NBCS offers expertise, information and support to the family from the moment a child is diagnosed as visually impaired through until the age of 25. Their objective is to help your child gain the skills and confidence they need to lead a full life.

NBCS offer five key services:

  • Education Advisory Service - to ensure your child receives the best possible education at every stage.
  • CustomEyes Books - a large print book service, producing fiction and non-fiction titles along with revision guides, customised to meet your child's individual needs.
  • ICT & Sensory Equipment - ensuring your child has the correct equipment at home and at school.
  • Holidays & Activities - giving visually impaired children the opportunity to participate with fully sighted children in a programme of recreational activities. A choice of family wekends and activity days.
  • Family Support and Information - offering a comprehensive, holistic approach at the time of diagnosis and throughout the child's life.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
