SOBS exists to meet the needs and break the isolation of those bereaved by the suicide of a close relative or friend. Emotional and practical support is offered in the following ways.

  • Telephone helpline

  • One-day conferences
  • Residential events
  • Bereavement packs
  • Information relating to practical issues and problems

SOBS aims to provide a safe confidential environment in which bereaved people can share their experiences and feelings, so giving and gaining support. SOBS also strives to improve public awareness and maintains contacts with many other statutory and voluntary organisations. SOBS groups are open to all over the age of 18, regardless of social, ethnic or cultural background. For further information, local groups or suggested reading (including books for children and teenagers), please contact the above address.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
