NHFA provides advice and information on obtaining and paying for long term care. NHFA advice is available to all regardless of means and encompasses all the financial and legislative issues which should be considered by older people requiring care and by their families. The aim of the NHFA is to enable older people to meet the cost of chosen care for life whilst also preserving their original capital, independence, dignity and choice. The NHFA offers the following services:

  • Combines specialist financial advice with the many other complex issues including local authority assessment and charging procedures, health authority responsibilities, DWP benefits, and legal matters, for example, enduring power of attorney, etc.
  • Operates a 'National Care Advice Line' (number above) and a nation-wide team of local advisers.
  • Produces 'Long Term Care Guides', including: NHFA Guide to Nursing Home and Residential Care; Meeting the Cost; Choosing your home; Legal matters; and an extensive range of Infosheets, including: Treatment of Property; Treatment of Couples; Deprivation of Assets; Issues Surrounding Choice; Summary of Local Authority Charging Procedures; Legal Matters and Long Term Care.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
