The Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Trust's main aims and objectives are as follows.
- To support and inform families caring for a child with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. To provide assistance to the carers and parents, to enable them to obtain the services and information to which they have a right.
- To network families together from all over the UK with people in their own locality. To provide a 24 hour help/adviceline. To return a call where a number is given within 24 hours and to reply to letters within one week.
- To raise awareness of FAS among medical professions advising and treating pregnant women including Alcohol Advisory Groups, Social Services, Education Professionals and Advisors.
- To increase knowledge among women of the possible consequences of alcohol consumption to the unborn child so they can make an informed decision on drinking during pregnancy.
- Programme of talks to schools, colleges, universities and to other professional bodies. (This service is currently only available in the North West of England).
- Provision of information packs, resource lists, leaflets and booklets. All information is free but a stamped addressed envelope (A4 size with 66p postage) is appreciated.
