The Bendrigg Trust is a residential activity centre which runs outdoor education courses and holidays for young people with special needs. Located in countryside between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, the Centre has two accommodation units set in 15 acres of grounds. Groups come to the centre for a week or a weekend from a variety of organisations including schools and colleges for children with special needs, homes, hostels, hospitals, community groups, and disability organisations. Features of the Centre include the following:
- Main centre has beds for 40 people and is fully wheelchair accessible.
- Self-contained annexe for 20 people.
- Activities include: climbing, abseiling, canoeing, caving, sailing, orienteering as well as indoor games and projects.
- All programmes tailor-made for each visiting group.
Staff at Bendrigg have a flexible approach to accommodate a variety of groups who wish to fulfil differing objectives. Through the courses, the Centre tries to promote integration, encourage independence, and build self-confidence. It is open throughout the year and employs a team of qualified and experienced tutors to deliver the activities.
