The Pick's Disease Support Group offers help, support and understanding to carers throughout the UK. They recognise that there are few facilities tailored for the younger person with dementia. The Group aims to help put people in touch with others who understand the distress and burden caused by this disease.
The group supports carers of patients with a wide range of rarer dementia diagnoses including:
- Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration or Pick's which includes Frontotemporal Dementia, Frontal Lobe Degeneration, Semantic Dementia and Primary Progressive Aphasia
- Corticobasal Degeneration
- Dementia with Lewy Bodies
- Alcohol Related Dementia
- Korsakoff Syndrome.
The group produces booklets, leaflets, awareness cards, a quarterly newsletter which include descriptions of the conditions and their symptoms together with additional contact information. Quarterly meetings are held in London and Liverpool and also a yearly seminar held in various parts of the country, for example, Leeds, Newcastle, London, Glasgow, and Warwick. The group also arranges days out and short breaks.
