The UK Sports Association for People with Learning Disability (UKSA) was established in 1980.
Their overall mission is to encourage the development of sustainable, integrated quality sports provision for people with learning disability from grass roots through to elite International opportunities and to develop the potential of people with learning disability by encouraging and facilitating their participation in sporting activities at United Kingdom and International level; advancing through sport their education, training and social development assisting their integration into society.
UKSA is a strategic, umbrella and coordinating body working with agencies and athletes from all over the UK who develop grass roots sports opportunities. UKSA facilitates talented athletes along the performance pathway to international opportunities including European and World Championship events, plus the Global Games and ultimately the Paralympic Games. It is the only portal in the UK through which Great Britain athletes can compete at INAS-FID competition.
UKSA's role is unique as it is the only organisation for sport for people with learning disability that has a truly UK wide remit and its has the responsibility for classification of athletes with learning disability in the UK.
