Scottish Women's Aid is an organisation which aims to help abused women and their children, and to end such violence against women.

Please note: Scottish Women's Aid is not a direct support agency. Please contact local women's aid groups for support and advice.

Scottish Women's Aid supports the work of local women's aid groups in Scotland and undertakes national work such as training, educating and campaigning. Scottish Women's Aid is a charitable organisation which relies on fundraising and Scottish Executive funding. Those involved may have experienced abuse themselves or are concerned about domestic violence. Women's aid groups in Scotland can offer the following:

  • 24 hour help (some of the local groups have a 24 hour number).
  • Someone to talk to.
  • Information on housing and legal rights.
  • Refuges or safe houses where abused women can stay with their children for as long or as often as they need.
  • Support for women and children who have left refuges.
  • Information and assistance to the children, their mothers and other agencies.

Scottish Women's Aid produces newsletters, leaflets, posters, and audio visual aids.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
