  • Disseminates specialist information to individuals, families and those at risk.
  • Provides specialist advice and information to health and social service professionals in Scotland.
  • Offers emotional support to individuals and families.
  • Assists in obtaining professional assessment, support services and respite care.
  • Makes research findings and other information available.
  • Has a range of publications dealing with Huntington's disease.
  • Advisory services in various parts of Scotland and plans to extend this service as funding permits. The advisory service is operated on a strictly confidential basis - telephone the number above for more details.

There are also a number of SHA Family Support Branches. These groups provide an opportunity to meet with others whose lives are affected by Huntington's disease. Local groups are primarily attended by family members, however anyone with an interest is welcome to attend. These groups provide a forum for distributing specialist information about Huntington's disease, sharing experiences and the opportunity to organise fundraising events. Guest speakers are invited to talk on subjects chosen by each local group.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
