Down's Syndrome Scotland is a membership organisation which works to improve the quality of life for everyone with Down's syndrome in Scotland. It aims to get across to the public that every person with Down's syndrome is a unique individual full of potential. Its membership includes individuals who have Down's syndrome, parents and professionals. Features and activities of Down's Syndrome Scotland are as follows:

  • A network of branches throughout Scotland which run local activities, offer support to new parents and give members a chance to share experiences.
  • Specialist staff based in Edinburgh provide a telephone advice service on all issues related to Down's syndrome such as ante-natal screening and testing, child development, education, health, ageing and dementia.
  • A range of publications providing information from before birth through to adulthood and ageing.
  • A quarterly newsletter is produced which carries features, articles and interviews on current issues.
  • Events including its AGM and professional workshops.
  • Education of the public about Down's syndrome through the press, schools, running events and circulating material.
