Overseas Adoption Support and Information Services

Tel (helpline): 0870 241 7069
Web: www.adoptionoverseas.org

Overseas Adoption Support and Information Services (OASIS) was started by families who have already adopted and are pleased to share their experiences with others wishing to adopt from abroad.

OASIS is run entirely by unpaid volunteers and is non-profit making. All proceeds are used firstly to support the actual running costs of the group for members: postage, printing of newsletters, stationary, and such like. Excess funds are donated to orphanages and children's charities in developing countries.

OASIS has a membership of approximately 1000 and a membership list is produced annually so that members can get in touch with each other for advice and support.

OASIS publishes a newsletter Mosaic covering all aspects of overseas adoption and includes articles such as adoption conference reports, personal adoption stories, world-wide adoption news and so on.

OASIS produces a number of factsheets describing the adoption procedure in various countries, and members who have adopted from that country and have first hand information compile these. Factsheets are also available on topics such as: the home study, entry clearance and re-adoption in the UK.

OASIS organises adoption seminars and conferences on various topics concerning overseas adoption and has an annual get together specifically for the children to get together.

OASIS tries to give as much up to date information as possible to enable families to make an informed decision on Intercountry adoption. The support network and helpline give easy access to information for both pre and post adoption issues.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
