TACT's prime responsibility is to find parents for children who are unable to live with and be brought up by their own families. At the heart of its concerns is the welfare of children. TACT takes applications from prospective adopters living within a 35-mile radius of London. Its activities include the following:

  • Finding families of all races and walks of life for children unable to be brought up by their own parents.
  • Counselling birth parents making important decisions about their children's future.
  • Helping children understand the past and prepare for the future.
  • Preparing and selecting adopters - couples and single people.
  • Helping new families to learn to live together.
  • Negotiating and helping make arrangements for contact between children, relatives, or other important people in their lives.
  • Running groups and providing individual counselling for adult adoptees.
  • Being available at times of need to those involved in and affected by the adoption process.
  • Runs an on-going post placement support group which supports new families.
