The Elizabeth Foundation is a registered charity which provides - nationwide - parent centred services for young children with a hearing loss and offers their families hope, guidance and encouragement. Services are provided from their regional family centres or by their Home Learning and Parent Support Programme. The Foundation's principles are as follows.

  • To facilitate early identification of hearing loss from birth to five years.
  • To provide an early intervention service for babies, toddlers and pre-school deaf children.
  • To positively impact the lives of children, parents and families.
  • To offer parents support and education.
  • To maintain the Foundation's leading position in the education of pre-school deaf children.

The Elizabeth Foundation provides the following services.

  • Audiological Services (Portsmouth) - in partnership with the local NHS Trust the Foundation provides a neo-natal screening programme and paediatric test facilities in a purpose-built, child-centred environment.
  • Parent Education Classes - to teach parents how to help their child communicate.
  • Support Groups and Counsellors - to provide a counselling service for all parents attending the Family Centre who are coping with the impact of deafness on their family.
  • Demonstration Home Parent/Infant Programme - to show parents how to use activities in the home to guide their deaf infant or toddler in the development of communication skills.
  • Pre-School Programme - to emphasise the spoken language, cognitive and social development of deaf children.
  • Music Programme.
  • Home Learning and Parent Support Programme - to educate and provide emotional support to families from all over the UK.
  • Helpline - support and information services for parents of children of any age.

The Foundation has one further family centre in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
