Familial Dysautonomia (FD) is a genetic disease that affects male and female Jewish babies, primarily causing dysfunction of the autonomic and sensory nervous systems. It is estimated that one in thirty individuals of Eastern European Jewish ancestry is a carrier of the gene for FD.
The Dysautonomia Society of Great Britain is a registered charity. The society is affiliated to the Dysautonomia Foundation whose headquarters are in New York. The Society provides information to members, parents, professionals and anyone who requests medical, educational, or promotional material concerning FD. The organisation's members have monthly meetings and run a support network. The charity now raise money to bring over to the UK Israeli and American specialists to hold clinics in London, to see any FD child/adult who does not travel well.
The charity is also there to financially support the needs of the FD patients.
The helpline (details above) is available to all for answering queries on FD.
