Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland is a medical charity which aims to improve the quality of life for people in Scotland affected by chest, heart and stroke illness through medical research, advice and information, and support in the community. Activities include the following:

  • The advice line provides confidential, independent advice by nurses and support to people with chest, heart and stroke illness, their families, carers and health professionals throughout Scotland.
  • Patient and carers' support groups around Scotland.
  • Welfare to individuals and families in financial difficulty as a result of chest, heart or stroke illness.
  • Volunteer stroke service giving practical help to people who have had a stroke, particularly those with communication problems.
  • Fundraising.
  • Research grants.

The following services are available in some healthboards but not others:

  • CHSS nurses provide support in the community for stroke patients and their families.
  • Stroke training for NHS staff.
  • Heart failure volunteer co-ordinator.
  • Young stroke support worker.
  • Heart failure nurses.
  • 'Hearty Voices' training for patients and carers to get involved in the NHS.
