An Acoustic Neuroma is a brain tumour which is usually benign and slow growing. It is commonly cured with modern treatment. The British Acoustic Neuroma Association (BANA) is a patient-organised and administered information and mutual aid group, founded in 1992. It is a registered charity and exists for mutual support, information exchange and sympathetic listening. Individuals or their family members who have had benign tumours or other problems affecting the cranial nerves are eligible for membership together with anyone interested in supporting the Association. A small fee is charged for yearly membership. BANA's activities include the following.

  • Publication of a quarterly newsletter which includes professionally authored medical information, a postbag and other helpful articles.
  • Making available patient information in relation to acoustic neuroma meetings.
  • Responding to the non-medical needs of individual members.
  • Providing opportunities for patients to communicate with others by encouraging local support groups.
  • Promoting and publishing results of research on effects of acoustic neuroma.
  • The Association has produced a leaflet titled Some Answers about Acoustic Neuroma. After-care leaflets and booklets are also available.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
