The Advisory Centre for Education (ACE) Ltd is an independent national advice centre for parents. It is a registered charity, financed by funds raised from charitable trusts, local education authorities, industry and sales of publications. ACE is able to provide a sympathetic ear, give information on the law, and advice for parents making complaints about their children's education. As well as helping parents on behalf of their children, ACE also helps teachers, governors, education professionals and administrators and local support groups.
ACE aims to work for an education system that supports all children and promotes the active involvement of parents in their children's education. ACE aims to provide the information, support and advice that parents need to help their children at school particularly when there are problems. ACE's activities include the following:
- Providing information on state-maintained school education (including on telephone advice line number above).
- Sharing expertise by providing training and support.
- Encouraging the development of advice-giving in local communities.
- Working to develop policies and good practice.
- Building up an extensive resource for advice work and research.
- Publicising parents' views and results of ACE's own research.
ACE publications include: Special Education Handbook, Appealing for a School, Permanent and Fixed Period Exclusion, Tackling Bullying, Getting Extra Help, School Attendance and Making a Complaint.
