The Gut Trust is a self-help organisation for people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) offering information, support and advice. The mission of The Gut Trust is to inform, support and educate those with IBS and their families and carers; to improve the quality of life of those with IBS and to raise public awareness of IBS and the issues surrounding this condition.
The Trust produces a quarterly journal, Gut Reaction, covering a wide variety of topics relating to IBS including articles by medical professionals, members' letters, and tips for management of the disease. Fact sheets are also available.
Their website contains lots of information including the 'Self Management Programme' which in 11 sections provides information about IBS and allows sufferers to live more comfortably with the condition.
Members also receive a Can't Wait membership card, have the opportunity to participate in research, join a media list and reviewing scheme. The Trust operates Befriender and Penpal schemes and co-ordinates local self help groups.
The authors and editors of this article are employed to create accurate and up to date content reflecting reliable research evidence, guidance and best clinical practice. They are free from any commercial conflicts of interest. Find out more about updating.
