The Pain Relief Foundation is a charity established to research the cause of chronic pain, methods of treating and alleviating pain, and seeking cures for all chronic pain conditions. In support of its work, the Foundation offers an information service to pain sufferers and issues leaflets describing chronic pain conditions, together with advice as to where additional information can be obtained.

Doctors at the NHS Centre for Pain Relief at the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Liverpool (one of the world's largest pain-relieving clinics) and their colleagues researching at the Pain Relief Foundation's Pain Research Institute have between them built up an unrivalled body of information on specific types of pain. This includes data on the origins and nature of the pain, the way it is affected by different circumstances, how it responds to various forms of treatment, and the likely outlook for the patient. Leaflets are available to download from their website on many pain types including the following.

  • Shingles and Postherpetic Neuralgia
  • Phantom Limb Pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Low Back Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Arthritis
  • Managing Cancer Pain
  • Trigeminal Neuralgia
  • Headache
  • Painful Diabetic Neuropathy
  • Central Post Stroke Pain
  • Strong Opioids for Chronic Pain
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
  • "Over-the-Counter" Medicines for Pain Relief
  • Drugs for Nerve Pain
