The Insulin Dependent Diabetes Trust was originally set up to look at some of the day-to-day difficulties of living with diabetes. The trustees came together because they all experienced some difficulties with human insulin and when changed to animal insulin these problems disappeared or improved considerably. The IDDT believes that a wide range of insulins should remain available to suit the varying needs of people with diabetes but looking at the advantages and disadvantages of human insulin remains a priority. Supporting the needs of those living with diabetes to have an informed choice of treatment, including choice of insulin, is of a major importance to the Trust. Membership is free but donations are welcome.

The aims of the Trust are:

  • To offer care and support to people with diabetes and their carers, especially those experiencing difficulty with human insulin.
  • To influence appropriate bodies to ensure that a wide range of insulins remain available to ensure that all insulin users have a continued supply of their chosen insulin.
  • To ensure that all patients and carers are properly informed of the alternative treatments available to them.
  • To collect information and experiences from those with diabetes and their carers, to use this to help others in the same situation and to pass it to professionals to create a greater understanding of life with diabetes.
  • To inform members and others through a quarterly newsletter.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
