Autism Independent UK, formerly the Society for the Autistically Handicapped, is involved in the following activities:

  • Lobbies for an increased awareness of autism.
  • Works towards bringing an improved quality of life both to sufferers and their families.
  • Lobbies for intergration of autism sufferers into the work place.
  • Provides a library of books and video information.
  • Is involved in policy making regarding care and treatment of children/adults in the country. Member of various steering groups.
  • Organises and runs workshops and seminars for the training of professionals, carers and parents.
  • Has access to internationally known practitioners in the field.
  • Produces a newsletter for professionals and parents (via website).
  • Operates telephone helpline 10am - 6pm for professionals, carers and parents.
  • Perceives the needs of those with autism and tries to find appropriate services.
  • Housing projects.
