The aim of the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre (MSRC) is to act as a one-stop service for anyone affected by MS. Whether it is those with a diagnosis or those expecting one, family, friends, employers, work colleagues, professionals in the field or those with just an interest, the Centre aims to provide answers and/or support that is accurate and appropriate.

With a small team of committed and experienced staff, each enquiry is treated with genuine empathy whilst tailoring the response to the needs of the caller. Sometimes it is just a question of listening and staff can do that as well. Staff try very hard never to make people feel that they haven't got time to talk or listen and no question is too small or too big. If staff don't know the answer they will find out and they will provide details of any other agency which could help further. There is a wide range of single subject leaflets and a recommended booklist as well as a bi-monthly magazine, New Pathways, full of useful information, often not covered in other publications.

MSRC has an open but sensible approach to alternative therapies and has links to MS Therapy Centres around the country. MSRC believes in self help and strong patient/professional partnerships. Services offered include the following:

  • Information helpline and advisory service
  • Support counselling by telephone - 24 hour
  • Research, therapy and benefits updates and explanation
  • Referral to other agencies
  • Specialised training programmes
  • Bi-monthly magazine

All services are free except that a subscription is requested for the provision of the bi-monthly magazine on a regular basis. Complimentary sample issues of New Pathways are always available to anyone affected by MS, this can be ordered via the website or by telephoning the above.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
