COTIS is an industry network, and a registered charity, dedicated to improving, increasing and promoting the production of quality accessible information for people with a print-impairment, by providing quality standards, guidelines, advice and shared expertise. Registered in 1987, COTIS has consistently endeavoured to improve the quality of accessible information, with a particular focus on audio recordings and their usability.
COTIS has developed a series of guidelines on various aspects of recording, and in 2005 launched a Trascription Quality Assessment Scheme (TQAS), with a certificate for audio recordings for commercial clients (commercial audio) as the first available standard. Certificates for other kinds of audio recordings and for other formats are in the pipeline, working with industry partners such as the United Kingdom Association of Braille Producers (UKABP).
This organsition has been certified as a producer of reliable health and social care information.
