Allergy UK is a national medical charity established to increase understanding and awareness of allergy, to help people manage their allergies, to raise funds for allergy research and to provide training in allergy for health care professionals including doctors, nurses, dietitians and pharmacists.

The British Allergy Foundation was formed as a registered charity in 1991 by a group of leading medical specialists determined to improve awareness, management and treatment of allergy. In May 2002 the operational name of the foundation was changed to Allergy UK.

The charity is managed by the board of trustees who deal with all the business aspects of the organisation. All decisions on medical and scientific matters in which the foundation is involved are made by the health advisory panel. Members of this panel include leading allergists, dermatologists, immunologists, paediatricians, GPs, nurses and dieticians.

Allergy UK publishes a list of fact sheets and booklets covering all the common allergies. These are written and approved by leading allergy specialists.

Please visit their website for further information including membership details.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
