The Association can help in a variety of ways such as helping patients in the period both before and after the operation with such help and information as may be necessary with regard to appliances, housing, work situations, marital problems and assisting them to resume as full a life as possible with every confidence. Visits may be made to patients at home or in hospital before and after an operation.

Membership is available for a modest annual fee and there are regional branches in many areas of the UK with postal membership available to those in other areas or overseas. The UA Journal, published three times a year, includes members' articles of a medical and non-medical nature.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
