Scoliosis Association UK (SAUK) is a national support group for scoliosis (lateral curvature of the spine). Although this condition is quite common, few people have heard of it. So when a parent is told that their healthy child has scoliosis, it can come as a shock. SAUK's network of contacts provides the opportunity to find reassurance from others in similar situations, and to share the physical, emotional and social aspects of scoliosis. SAUK's older members also find this service helpful.
SAUK provides information about scoliosis and treatment available at specialist centres. Older members with severe curvature also benefit from information on respiratory treatment centres and pain clinics. SAUK does not give individual medical advice but working alongside the medical profession aims to fill any gaps left by busy hospital clinics.
A newsletter is produced twice yearly and other publications are available, including a handbook on Scoliosis.
