Parkinson's UK (formerly the Parkinson's Disease Society) provides information and support to anyone affected by Parkinson's. Their booklets, information sheets, DVDs and audio tapes cover a range of topics, including symptoms, treatments, benefits and emotional issues. You can contact their helpline to ask about translating their resources into other languages.
Their website features all the latest news, publications and research updates, as well as contact information for support groups in your area. There's also a discussion forum to share your experiences of living with Parkinson's.
The charity's UK-wide team of information and support workers provides confidential one-to-one information and signposting, as well as emotional support for you and your family. An interpreting service can be arranged.
Their expert nurses and helpline staff provide impartial information about all aspects of Parkinson's, including taking medication and claiming benefits. An interpreting service is available for anyone who doesn't speak English.
Parkinson's UK is working to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's. The charity funds groundbreaking research to advance understanding of Parkinson's and what causes it. Their research also improves treatments to make life easier for people living with Parkinson's.
They also offer training and develop resources for health and social care professionals to help improve services for people affected by Parkinson's. They campaign to make sure people living with Parkinson's are treated fairly, with access to the support they need. They also improve understanding of Parkinson's by changing attitudes and challenging myths.
The charity's work is totally dependent on donations.
