NDCS, the National Deaf Children's Society, is a UK charity solely dedicated to the support of all deaf children and young deaf people, their families and professionals working with them.
Why are they there?
There are 35,000 deaf children in the UK and two more are born deaf every day.
- 90% are born to hearing parents with little experience of deafness.
- Deafness makes it harder for children to learn to communicate.
- Many families face challenges in establishing good communication with their deaf children.
- 40% of deaf children also have additional needs or disabilities.
- One in five children gets glue ear which causes temporary deafness.
