The Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy is a national charity in the UK dedicated both to supporting people affected by SMA, and investing in essential research into causes, treatments and eventually a cure for the condition.
The Jennifer Trust provides a range of services to support people affected by SMA, their families and their carers.
Outreach Service - they have a team of professional outreach workers who can visit families affected by SMA and offer personalized support, information and advice. Their outreach workers cover the whole of the United Kingdom and are available to answer questions, help you understand SMA, and to offer support from the moment of diagnosis onwards.
Contact Volunteer Network - their national network of trained volunteers can offer emotional support to anyone affected by SMA based on their own personal experience of living with the condition or caring for someone with it.
Information Service - their comprehensive information service can help answer any queries you may have about SMA. They can also signpost you to other organisations or people who may be able to assist.
The Jennifer Trust also:
- Produces fact-sheets and newsletters.
- Maintains their website as the definitive online source of information about SMA.
- Operates a toy loan service.
- Organises conference, educational events and social gatherings.
- Provides ongoing family support following bereavement.
- Links to other support organisations.
- Lobbies for better services for people affected by SMA.
- Works with other international SMA organisations.
