The GBS Support Group provides emotional support to patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome, their families and friends. Where possible, it can arrange personal visits by former patients to those currently in hospital, rehabilitation centres, and to those recovering. The Support Group is a national charity and its services are free. Those who contact the Support Group may subsequently become members - contact the office above for details.
The Support Group publishes a booklet, Guillain-Barré Syndrome - a short guide for patients, relatives and friends. Companion booklets include: The Guillain-Barré Syndrome Patient in Intensive Care (only applicable in cases where the patient is being ventilated), Childhood GBS, and CIDP.
The Support Group educates the public and medical community about the its activities and maintains their awareness of the illness. It also fosters research into the cause, treatment, and other aspects of the illness. It encourages specialist groups covering GBS in pregnancy and in childhood and promotes financial support for the group's activities.
