Addison's Disease Self Help Group

Web: www.addisons.org.uk

The Addison's Disease Self-Help Group (ADSHG) is a small charity run by and for those living and working with Addison's disease. Parents, partners, or medical professionals with an interest in the management of Addison's disease are welcome to join. They aim to share information and experiences that can help people and their families to work together with their doctors in managing their health. There is a small annual subscription.

The ADSHG is supported by the Addison's Clinical Advisory Panel (ACAP), a group of endocrinologists with an interest in adrenal medicine. ACAP has issued clinical guidelines for emergency treatment of hypoadrenalism and glucocorticoid medication for surgery and dentistry. These are available on the ADSHG website at www.addisons.org.uk/publications

The ADSHG offers its members:

  • Information on living with Addison's disease.
  • An emergency card outlining the medical treatment needed to prevent adrenal crisis in the event of severe illness or injury.
  • A print newsletter published four times a year.
  • Access to the ADSHG website which publishes a wide range of materials.
  • Access to a members-only electronic discussion board.
  • Regional meetings and an annual medical lecture.

PS - Health and Poverty

Perhaps the biggest cause of ill health in the world is poverty. Help to Make Poverty History. For example, why not lend some of your money to disadvantaged communities to enable them to trade their way out of poverty through schemes such as Shared Interest.

See also MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY North East for details and links to campaigns against poverty.
