Hearing Aid Council
The Hearing Aid Council is a statutory body established under the Hearing Aid Council Act (1968). It regulates anyone who sells hearing aids whether in the High Street, the purchaser's home or in a hospital. The HAC does not regulate hearing aids supplied free of charge by the NHS nor mail-order sales nor e-commerce sales. On their site you will be able to:
- look at the standards relating to the sale of hearing aids
- find the latest news relating to the Council
- check that a hearing aid dispenser or their employer has an entry in the List
- lodge a complaint
- look at up to date details of examinations, etc.
British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists (BSHAA)
BSHAA is the professional body which represents the interests of the private hearing aid profession within the United Kingdom. Their website includes plenty of useful information aimed at the general public about hearing aids, the different types, how they work, etc. Their website also includes a directory of BSHAA members in the UK who are available to offer you advice on hearing loss and ways of overcoming it.

Starkey Laboratories
The world's largest manufacturer of hearing instruments. Their website aims... "to answer basic questions and dispel the myths that continue to make seeking treatment something of a stigma. Hopefully it provides information that will empower you, or someone close to you, to consult with a hearing professional to learn even more."
National Deaf Children's Society
Provide information about hearing aids.

ENT UK
The British Assocation of Head and Neck Surgeons provides patient information on hearing aids.
Sussex Audiology Centre
An independent company staffed by experienced Audiological Technicians. They provide specialist hearing aid services, hearing problem diagnosis and ENT surgery. Their website also contains usuefull general information about hearing aids.
National Hearing Services
Provide advice on hearing issues. Theycan provide hearing tests and also allow you to try different hearingaids for free.

Directgov is the website of the UK government for its citizens, providing information and online services for the public all in one place. They provide a wide range of information including one in this area.
NHS Hearing Aids - Problem Solving
Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provide a wide range of patient information leaflets including one in this area.
National Cochlear Implant Users Association
The NCIUA is the Association that represents all Cochlear Implant users in the United Kingdom. It is open to all implant users, their family and friends.
Paul Darroch and Company
An independent hearing aid audiologist providing a professional hearing aid service. The website also provides information on hearing aids and hearing care.
HEAR - Help Ear and Allied Research
HEAR is working with Manchester Royal Infirmary in the treatment of severe to profound deafness. The charity is also working to develop CI technology which is designed for the auditory rehabilitation of a specific small group of totally deaf individuals. HEAR is also involved with new programmes looking at the effectiveness of semi-implantable and totally implantable hearing aids.
