Hachinski Scale

Hachinski Ischaemia Score This widely used scoring test is used to try and distinguish Alzheimer's disease from multi-infarct dementia. A score of 0-4 suggests Alzheimer's, and 7 suggests an ischaemic cause:

Feature Score
Abrupt onset
Stepwise deterioration
Fluctuating course
Nocturnal confusion
Personality relatively preserved
Depression
Somatic complaints
Emotional incontinence
H/o Hypertension
H/o Strokes
Evidence of other Atherosclerosis
Focal neurological symptoms
Focal neurological signs
