How to take piracetam
- Before beginning treatment, read the manufacturer's printed information leaflet.
- Take piracetam exactly as directed by your doctor.
- Piracetam is usually taken two or three times a day.
- Piracetam tablets can be swallowed with a drink of water. Do not break or chew the tablets as piracetam has a bitter taste.
- If you are taking the oral solution, drinking a glass of water or soft drink after taking your dose can help to take away the taste.
- Try to take piracetam at the same times each day to avoid missing any doses.
- If you forget to take a dose, take one as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for your next dose in which case skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up.
Getting the most from your treatment
- If you are having any treatment like an operation or dental treatment tell the person carrying out the treatment which medicines you are taking.
- Keep your regular doctor's appointment so your progress can be monitored.
- Do not stop taking piracetam without speaking to your doctor first. Stopping suddenly can cause your symptoms to worsen.
- If you buy any medicines, check with a pharmacist that they are safe to take with your other medicines.
