About latanoprost eye drops

Type of medicineProstaglandin analogue
Used forTo reduce high pressure within the eye
Also calledXalatan®
Xalacom® (a combination of latanoprost with timolol)
Available asEye drops

Latanoprost is used to treat open angle glaucoma. Glaucoma is caused by a blockage in the eye which prevents fluid leaving the eye, causing pressure to build up within the eye. This can cause pain and discomfort. Latanoprost works by increasing the outflow of fluid from the eye, relieving the pressure. It can be used alone or alongside other treatments for glaucoma such as timolol.

Latanoprost can also be useful in treating other conditions which cause increased pressure in the eye such as ocular hypertension.
