Before using ichthammol
Before using ichthammol make sure your doctor or pharmacist knows:
- If you have ever had an allergic reaction to this or any of the ingredients listed on the packaging of this preparation.
How to use ichthammol
- Before beginning treatment, read the manufacturer's printed information leaflet.
- Ichthammol is usually applied to the affected area one to three times a day.
Getting the most from your treatment
- Avoid contact with the eyes; if any of this preparation gets into the eyes, rinse thoroughly with warm water.
- Some preparations of ichthammol contain lanolin - check with your pharmacist if you are allergic to this.
- Avoid contact with clothing, as ichthammol will stain.
- The following can make any itching you may be experiencing worse: extremes of temperature, wearing rough or irritating clothing such as wool, and the perfumes in soaps and toiletries.
Can ichthammol cause problems?
This preparation is unlikely to cause side-effects unless you are allergic to one of the ingredients.
If your skin condition gets worse after using ichthammol, or if you develop a rash, stop using the preparation and speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
How to store ichthammol
- Keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children.
- Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat and light.
