Betamethasone is a corticosteroid which is used topically to treat short-term inflammatory conditions of the eye, ear and nose. 'Topically' means that it is applied to the surface of the eye, ear or nose.

Betamethasone works by reducing symptoms such as redness, itching and soreness caused by inflammation. Sometimes it is used in combination with an anti-infective medicine called neomycin which helps prevent infection.
