thoracic aortic aneurysm

  1. my dad died suddenly after his aneurysm ruptured. he was a very fit man and he didn't know that he had this going on. we then found out that it is highly possible that his dad, (grandad) died of one as well, but grandad had chronic lung and chest problems and so he did have a PM. Then we found out that his dads (grandads) brother died of an aneurysm and that his (grandads) dad also had an aneurysm.

It seems there is a mix of the type, my fathers being thoracic and dissecting and the others were brain and abdominal.

What screening should i have if any? should i just not worry? I am the middle child and seem to have the most health issues. I had unexplained significant bleeding in pregancy in 2010 and have gastric issues as well as chest. I often feel unwell and tired but i thought that was because i am a mum and also because the last few months have been grieving.

I also have an older sister and a younger brother.

I am worried about the possibility of a splenic artery aneurysm for me and obviously fear for my brother.

  2. Hi Spoons,

I am so sorry about your Dad & can understand your concerns. I would suggest that you speak to your GP to see what he/she suggests be done to investigate this further. I don't think you should worry, easier said than done I know, but there might be nothing to worry about.

Hope all goes well for you
