strange migraine feelings

   I have very strange \"head\" feelings that my neurologist has told me is a type of migraine. I am 58 - when I was 9, my migraines started. Feelings then: numb hands & tongue - couldn't speak. It was like my brain was numb.

   Now, I have these feelings which really frighten me when they start up:

   all along the frontal lobe of my brain: numbness, full head, feel like I am \"stoned\", can't think clearly, makes me nauseous - it's like I have been heavily drugged. So scary. Sometimes I get a headache after (sometimes several days) sometimes not. I would much rather have the headache.

   All the tests repeated many times. MRI - all okay.

   Anyone else feel like this? This is really taking a big part of my life.

   The feelings, because they are out of my control, make me feel very

   insecure and nervous. Any input would be very much appreciated.

   l can understand how you feel ,my migraines vary,from very painful,with numbness,paralised limbs,vomiting,blindness. ,bowel also out of control,slurd speech,and as if l,m somewhere else.But many times and especially near my period l can feel very floaty,heavy head,and as if l,m under some sort of drug which makes you feel unwell.l think people with migraines ,have to put up with alot,l to had them at an early age of 11,but before that l started fainting at the age of 9.It wasn,t until l was 29 after l had my 1st child,l kept having funny heartbeats,and felt unwell. l got my heart tested to find out that l was born with,''MITRAL VALUE SYNDROME''.which can also give you migraines,so check your heart incase of a larger value.Not that they can do anything but maybe it will help you understand if you have that.Its horrible not to have control ,l feel the same and l,m sure other migraine sufferers feel the same it can make you feel alone and very low,when it starts massage the back of your neck,my husband does this with some lavender then put a hot water bottle there,take 2 paracetomel,a herbal sweet tea (roobios)and maybe a plain biscuit or 2,then have a wee sleep,if you can.Sorry l don,t have any miracle,l wished but remember your not alone.

   I was very frightened lastnight - I suddenly experienced a very weird eye disturbance whilst I was driving. When I got home I fel very sicky and my body ached. I went to bed with two paracetamols and felt truely awful. My head was banging like mad on the left side and then my mouth, and left hand went numb. I was beginning to panic but after about 10 minutes the feeling came back again and I was just left feeling frozen cold. I drifted off to sleep and tried to relax.

   This morning I have woken up feeling like I have been on a \"good night out\" and rollen over with a steam roller on the way home. I feel drained and knackered, with a very slight headache.

   I have only ever experience these symptoms once before and I'm hoping that it is just a migraine type of thing and not something more serious. It really frightened me as I just did not feel in control of my own body. I truely sympathise with anybody who has migraines on a regular basis. I hope that this is a one-off episode for me.

   Firstly, migraines are awful. It is a clinical disease. Grossely underestimated and impossible to understand by the non sufferer.I too have identical type migraine. Feel totally out of it. Im 32 and had it since I was about 15 but in the last 8 years it has really escalated into what it is today. A nightmare. Mine is frontal lobe, get a heavy dull nothingness kind of thing going on in the head. Vacant, lights on but no one at home. Makes me wonder if its premature dementure when its at its worse, but im told that it doesnt start and stop, just starts.

   Now then. After 8 years I have found out what makes it better. None of the prescription medications work. Maybe triptans helped me a bit but dont get into the cycle of epilepsy drugs or blood pressure tablets, aka beta blockers. I eat raw garlic and oregano oil. Totally cut out milk, chocolate, chilli. I cannot use Ralgex or Deep Heat muscle rub. Anything that is a blood vessel dilator or constrictor makes it worse. When my head is bad my hands and feet are cold. A very high percentage of people with migraine also have poor circulation, aka Raynauds Disease (not really a disease though). A high percentage of people with migraine had travel sickness as a kid.

   Whey protein is the very worst thing I can drink or if I get stressed or angry the adrenaline that gets released into your system will trigger a migraine. It works as a blood vessel dilator ready to pump up those muscles and heart rate to engage in confrontation.

   My day to day routine. Make sure you eat breakie. Make sure you eat well morning till lunch. Every hour even.
