Side Effects of Amlodipine

  1. Hi, I have been on Amlodipine 5mg for quite some time now, but in december last year I started getting very severe side effects, I have pain and cramps in my neck and leg muscles, I have no feeling in my arms and legs, I'm tired and dizzy, sometimes confused, i have a constant headache, feel generally unwell, dry mouth, sweating, can't sleep, sores in nose, diarrhoea, depression, and the latest thing is gum disease, my mouth is so sore I can hardly eat. What I want to know is, do I have to pay for the dental treatment for the damage caused by Amlodipine? I just wish my doctor will listen to me and not keep doing pointless tests. Do these side effects get better once you stop taking Amlodipine, or is the damage permanent?

  2. I have been taking Amlodapine 10mg for 10 years plus four other HBP tabs and can tell you that it gets worse the longer you stay on them.My BP is no better than when I started, and have all the side efects. My advice would be to stop taking the med before it is too late.I take Omega 3 now to help with the aches and pains and it is supposed to improve my low HDL cholestral caused by BP meds. John Timson

  3. [color=blue:31870b5efd]Don't be fobbed off by your doctor! I've been on amlodipine for years, and suffer many horrible side effects. They get worse the longer you are on them, I can say that for certain. Some years ago, I had bad reactions to the ACE inhibitor lisinopril, and also the beta blocker propranolol, and was reluctantly taken off them, but it now slightly narrows the choices of other meds to put me on, so my GP is resolutely ignoring my request to try something else. He insists it's me, not the medications.

I am on amlodipine and doxazosin now, but feel not with it, dream like, spaced out, tired to the point I cannot function, can't lose weight, swollen legs and many other things, but my useless GP cannot be bothered to try to find something else for me. There are hundreds of meds he could try but it's too much trouble for him, and I am so angry and frustrated. I keep being told that I am depressed and anxious. Well.....yeah!! Only because of these vile medications! I can't just stop my tablets as my bp soars, so I can't win. If I put my foot down I am told I am a difficult patient. I give up.

Don't let yourself be in this situation, with no life. Try as much as you can to get off them. You deserve better. Good luck. I have no idea if the damage is permanent, but the body is a wonderful thing and in my humble opinion should recover. But do it now, don't leave it any longer.[/color:31870b5efd]
