Renewed pain rfollowing hip operation.

  1. I had a right hip replacement done in April '09 after suffering from arthritis for some years. The actual procedure carried out is a Birminham Mid Head Resection and is similar to resurfacing except some bone is removed and the prosthesis stem is longer. I have been feeel ing good about my progress; I am approaching full mobility; initial pain has reduced to almost nothing. Worringly, however, in the last few weeks I have experienced increasing pain in my right groin when walking and excercising and am wondering whether this is normal or whether there is a problem with the replacemnt joint. I should add that my left hip is arthritic and I get some pain from that and also from arthritis in my lower back.

I would be interested in any comments / experiences particularly in relation to this specirfic operation. I am reluctant to go back to the surgeon just yet as I had a recent review and all seemed OK at that time.

  2. Hi there wondering how u r now..im 6weeks post op and also having the same groin pain. .Did your problem settle down. Im walking 20mins a day on 1crutch. ...find the cane unstable.I am over 6 feet and find i have to be especially careful about bending etc. .The pain and swelling intermittent but worrying. Maggie

  3. hi i had a hip resurfacing in july 2009 and apart from the first 6 weeks have been getting problems ever since

i still get varying pain in my groin , standing and sitting for any period of time is pain ful.

Im being tested for a bone infection and metal on metal problems,my last visit to hospital has resulted in a very real chance that they will have to re operate, im not looking forward to this as the last op resulted in me having a p embolism, there is also concern about the in fection has caused some liver damage
