Without going into too much history I have just had a second surgery to try and cure shin splints which I have suffered from for over 2 years. The first surgery was a "simple" fasciotomy (deep posterior compartment) but wasn't successful. So I've had to undergo a second more extensive surgery where the surgeon performed periosteal stripping of the tibia, over the full length, in addition to another fasciotomy.

This was now 8 weeks ago. I had hoped that by now I would be starting to feel some improvement but at the moment it feels much as it did before the surgery. In addition it now feels "bruised" down the front of the shin (full length). The leg still is a little swollen but shows no outward sig of bruising.

I've taken the recovery very slowly; no gym work at all except under the guidance of the physio and pretty much tried to avoid any signifiant physical exercise.I'd expected by now to be starting to ease back into exercise, pain free but that doesn't seem to be the case.

So my question is, am I expecting too much at this point in the recovery?

And if so, how long before I can conclude whether the surgery has suceeded or failed?

Starting to get very demoralized :-(

Cheers

Steve.
