Possible Vertigo

  1. I am not sure what heading this comes under as i have been given different diagnoses. My symtomes are, When first lying down on my right side I experience after a few seconds and wave of severe spinning coming from the back of the right side of my head. This is severe enough to make me cry out and hang on to something, usually my bedpost. This feeling lasts for a few seconds and subsides. I also experience a feeling on the back of my right side of the head as though someone where stroking my hair.

I usually wake with a headache over my eyes which feels heavy and my eyes feel tired and watery.

I also experience this dizzyness when I lean to the right and sometimes when moving my eyes quickly but this is not as fierce.

The above sensations last for quite a few months and then after a while I am back to normal for a few months. Although the length of time that the symtoms are present is getting longer. The current one has now lasted since January of this year and have not let up at all.

Does anyone out there have the same as me or similar and what the hell is it.

  2. Almost definitely a case of BPPV. Medication (Betahistine Hydrochloride) has kept most of my attacks at bay - or (over time) has lessened the severity of them. The much-touted head manipulations have not been overly successful for me. Some of my attacks have also seen ME hanging on to my bedpost for dear life, or very often spreading myself \"Eagle\" as wide as possible on the floor to prevent the anticipated fall.

It annoys me when people mention Vertigo when talking about a fear of heights... what rubbish !!

For me, a sudden shift of head position can cause a mild attack and even a sudden shift of visual focus can do it.
