Overactive Thyroid Graves Part 4

  1. Hey guys..I found out that the disturbing symptoms I have been having, including the head sensations and such are all related to anxiety..I found out I have an anxiety disorder. Its trully terrible but I am happy its nothing serious.. Hyperthyroidism causes anxiety which can lead to an anxiety disorder.

Maria alla what you described ..is strictly anxiety. I am sure and yep of course ur thyroid issue caused.. These Drs need to be more thorough with their practice..smh!

  2. Hi Maria. Thanks for your reply. At least I'm not the only one jumping. So the endo says it's not a symptom of our thyroids. So what is it a symptom of? He mustn't know either

    :D

  3. Hi everyone ,

Marigold i am jumpy too ,i usually put my radio on when i am on my own in the house so i dont hear many noises lol ,do you need your bloods doing again just to make sure especially with you not sleeping too .I am on my 4th lot of antibiotics and 6 days of steriods ,i have managed to take them for 5 days but was soooooooooo knackered as i am unable to sleep when taking them .My GP phoned me Friday saying he wanted 2 more lots of bloods done wether he found something in my last ones that have taken for ever to come through as they had to go to Liverpool ,he wanted more antibodies done ,so i have been and had them done today.I have been taking B12 frolic acid and zinc and i must say i am feeling good on it oh and vitiman C .I have not had any for a couple of days as i didnt know what the blood test was for but i can tell by my forgetfulness i havent had them .Since i put my thyroxine up a tad i have been alot better even though i still get the odd day where i feel as if i am going to crash..

Two of my daughters are waiting to have surgery ,one to have her gall bladder out and the other is having discs put in the back of her neck ,she goes for her MRI scan tomorrow this one also has Hashimotos

    Hope everyone else is well

    take care

    love sue

  4. Hi marigold I know exactly what you mean the slightest sudden noise can make me jump .

Going to get my bloods done tomorrow , I always keep a spare blood form for emergencys :-) ..

I will be surprised if my levels are still the same as I know these symptoms like the back of my hand.

Hope everyone else is coping ok

  5. Hello everyone, not been on for a while. Been busy worrying about the family, daughter to have an operation next week and brother having tests to exclude the nasties. Consequently have continued to have migraine aura every few days and have joined you with your nightime wandering around the house. I know what you mean about being jumpy, I put the timer on for the cooker earlier and when it went off I nearly went through the roof. I realy think that a lot of endos. dont know much about thyroid problems, they seem to be mainly interested in diabetes. We should all write a book ! Barry, hope your bloods come back ok, I was due to go for a test last week but didn't get around to it.

Kerry, you are so right about the thyroid and anxiety, I think it stays with you after the other symptoms have settled. Marigold if you feel like a midnight wander I'll meet you in the garden. Sue I love the fact that your self medicating has made you so much better lol !

Maria, good news about your hubby but what a lot you have on your plate, I hope you get all the help you need. It was good to hear from Daave recently, I wonder how Elaine is getting on.

Hope everyone doing ok today, hang on in there.

    love

    Bess xxx

  6. Hi everyone.

Sue, I have the radio on most of the time too, it does help. Do you sing along? I do. I hope nobody can hear. :D I don't think I've gone hyper as my weight is stable, I lose weight very quickly when I go hyper. I can easily lose half a stone in a week. I hope your chest settles soon. I take zinc, I've taken it for a long time. I think it works better than vitamin C for keeping colds at bay. I think you should start your own clinic as you've had plenty of practice with prescribing medication. :D

I hope your daughters are ok. I'm on gwanma duties on Thursday so I expect I'll sleep that night. :D Take carexxxxxxx

Hi Bess. No wonder you're having auras, you'll have a lot on your mind.

You're right about endos, they do seem to concentrate on diabetes. I think we are well done the list.

Yes, I'll meet you in the garden at midnight. We can sing 'come into the garden Maud'. :D

It would make the neighbours jumpy too. Take care.

Hi Barry. I hope you're wrong about your thyroid levels. I think I'll jump off Beachy Head if I go hyper again. :D

    Thinking of everyone.

  7. Hi Everyone,

I'm back from two lovely, lazy weeks in the Spanish sun. Only moved off the sunbed to go eat or top up the wine! Hence the spare tyre is now 5lbs heavier :-(

I've tried to catch up with all your posts, anxiety is still a big problem for me too, not so much being jumpy but feeling like I can't fully relax in anything I do if that makes sense? Still get daily palpitations but they only last seconds. I've got to make a blood test appointment for my 6 monthly levels check, can't believe it's been 6 months since my last one. Apart from the anxiety I feel pretty good most of the time.

When I think of how bad I was this time last year there is just no comparison.

For all who have just had or about to have RAI good luck it was the best decision for me in the long run.

Away to load the washing machine again, and get ready for work tomorrow :-(

  8. Hi every one this is alice in wonderland here.I am still puting time in unlil 14th Aug u ntil I get RAI but am I missing somrthing here.I thought once I would have it I would be a lot better but please enlighten me those of you who have had it done seem to be suffering symptons still.I am beginning to wonder if it is worthwhile going ahead with it.

  9. Good morning everyone,

How i hate this new forum ,i get so fed up having to sign in each time i want to reply ,then i cant remember who has posted or what was wrote ,so please forgive me if i do not mention your name rolleyes

So Marigold you will have a good sleep thursday night ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz after looking after your babies you sound a wonderful granmawww .Bess sorry you have worries stress isnt good for thyroid sufferers ,thinking of you hun xx

Kat me marigold and bess will help with the ironing as long as you dont include the bedding and curtains ,glad you had 2 wonderful weeks in the sun .

Alice you have to remember we are all different ,and some have better GPs and ENDOs than others ,look at me i am only just having my antibodies tested by my own insistance with my gp ,my endo never tested me and i honestly think part of my thyroid is still working this has been going on for 3 years and its only the last few weeks i have been feeling better but not everyone is like me Marigold was managed by her doctor on block and replace and that suited her fine ,but you always get an awkard one like me :[ in any science ,What you have to remember when you have RAI is that when its done its job and you start to go on thyroxine your body has to adjust and it can take a while to get to the right dose but you will be fine hun .Marigold is better at explaining than me .but dont worry xx

    take care

    love sue

  10. Hi Alice in Wonderland

I had RAI in January this year, I stopped taking the carb and thyroxine 2 weeks before the RAI and after I was to have blood test every 6 weeks and be drugged accordingly. I did go extremly under active and was really quite poorly, this was around half way through, but now I'm on 150 of Thyroxine daily and feeling mainly fine. My full 6 month appointment is at the end of August so I should know then whats what.

When I last saw the endo she said I was to expect to feel the symptoms for a while, as even though the bloods are about right your body is still catching up.

I still get tired quite easily and my hair is still shedding loads, but on the whole I can't complain and am glad I did it. I have said before if I was to do it again I would want to do the block and replace through the 6 months to avoid the evilness that is going hypo

    best wishes

    Hux

  11. Hi Alice. I hope we haven't frightened you to death. As you will probably know Graves is an autoimmune illness for which there is no cure. It targets the thyroid and makes it produce too much thyroxine. The RAI stops that happening by either disabling the thyroid completely or slowing it down, but you will still have Graves and always will have.

Unfortunately anxiety is one of the symptoms of Graves. When you have had RAI, as with any illness, there is a chance of recurrence.

I can honestly say that I haven't regretted having RAI for a minute. Most of the time I feel fine. I have my off days, but there again who doesn't. :D

    Marigold

  12. Hello everyone

Kat nice to hear you enjoyed your holiday smile

Marigold at 3 months arnt they lovely smile ,i keep reminding my daughters i cant wait to be a gran smile but they say noooo lol

sue i also dislike this forum and preferd the older one ,its taking some getting use to .

ive still not decided if to have the rai , they will want me in before the end of the month for it but i was planning a holiday so if i have it i assume i wont be able to go away and im so ready for a break.

they said i will have to stop carbs a week before and not take any for 6 weeks and have a blood test then, im not happy about being without carbs for that long as scare of going hypo again .

alice are you still going ahead with the rai ?

    take care everyone ,Deb xx

  13. Hi Everyone from New Zealand,

Hux ... Take care!!!! I hope you have plenty of support from workmates, family and friends. I know during my worst period I had really great workmates and friends who made freezer meals for me for the evening meals. I am so greatful to them.

This morning I made my second visit to the endocrinologist. The first endo I didn't like - particularly his bedside manner so I asked to see someone else.

I got Dr PH - she made a point that we had to get on as she had loads of patients to see = fair enough = I am in NZ and I do know I am lucky to see her as if you see her privately at $300 NZ and hour she has a six week - Yes thats six week waiting list!!!!

Dr PH said that I was progressing VERY WELL with my carbimazole therapy !!! . : ) However because of my inital HIGH thyroid value it is likely that I may be on carbimazole or anti thyroid therapy for the rest of my life : ( She said to ready myself for the news I may need surgery or RAI !!!!!!!

Things i learnt from the visit were that

I have NO thyroid eye disease symptoms . Thyroid eye disease is SEPERATE / INDEPENDENT from graves disease

My normal Dr was making me have regular full blood count to check my immune system as I understand that carbimzole therapy can harm your immune system. The endo said do NOT do this ! she said a blood count will not tell if it is necessarily getting to the immune system etc - the best way to tell is if i have a fever, feel unwell and have a sore throat.

    Bloods are

    10/05/12 24/05/12 25/06/12 31/07/12

    T4 84 39 24 14 : ) YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

    T3 44.2 28.4 15.9 8.4

In ALL cases I have NO TSH - its less than 0.01

The endo said I would take two more months maybe to get some TSH back ... but I am feeling better!!!

    TSH

Thanks everyone for the feedback and kind words ..... Hope you are doing ok

I have early shift so better go to bed

  14. Hi Everyone Thanks for your answers re RAI.My consultant assured me that once I had it done and started taking Thyroxine I would be fine. That is why I asked about all you patients who seems to be still suffering symptons.I will go ahead with it as to me it seems to be the way forward.I just hope I wont be disappointed with the results.WATCH THIS SPACE.I stop carbinzale a week before I have it and thyroxine 4weeks before.I have stopped thyroxine 2weeks ago and I feel ghastly .I am going to be an absolute mess when I go on 14th. I am a widow and live alone but my daughters want to come and stay for afew days after but from what the hospital have told me it doesnt seem a good idea because of the radio activity. How did youall manage re anyone staying.I am confused about the dangers. Is it as bad as they say.Sorry for bending your ears but I am stressed out over the whole thing!!!!!!

  15. Hi Alice

I'm now a week past my RAI and feel fine at the moment. I live by myself but family and friends nearby. Two visited me briefly 2 days after - just sat at opposite ends of room. Otherwise I got plenty of M&S food in, bought plenty of papers (no problem popping into the paper shop), watched TV and had a quiet weekend. Might be better for your daughters to wait a few days before coming but no problem if they do - just avoid close contact and follow the instructions you'll be given. My next step is bloodtest and endo visit in about 41/2 weeks. Good luck!

    AgW

  16. AgW So glad to hear from you.I am glad you are feeling o.k.after RAI.As I am sure you have realised I am concerned about the whole thing. However I will be glad to get it over and hopefully feel better for it.Have you started taking any medication yet since you have had it?

  17. Hi Alice

No I'm not taking anything at the moment. Stopped propranolol gradually after my last blood test showed thyroxine down to 17 and stopped PTU (couldn't tolerate carb) 5 days before RAI. Just waiting for next blood test to see about thyroxine.

    AgW

  18. Hi Alice. As long as you avoid close contact everything will be fine. I went shopping as usual, but had to sleep alone for eleven nights. I was even told I could kiss our grandchild as long as she didn't sit on my knee for long periods. It's close prolonged contact that can cause problems, although the physicist who gave me the RAI said it was all a load of rubbish, and he didn't think there was any danger at all.

You'll be fine, there's absolutelty nothing to worry about. Once it's over and you get your thyroxine dosage at the right level you'll feel like a new woman. smile

AgW. I'm sorry you're feeling rough. You'll be pleased when you've had the RAI.

    love,

    Marigold

  19. Hi everyone my bloods showed TSH 4.18 so more towards hypo than hyper .

I had a migraine aura last night first time in over 2 years horrible feeling lasted about 15-20 minutes it was late at night though and I was very stressed and tired.

My head has been like a jukebox the last few days and I think I've taken to much on at once.

My t4 wasn't done by my gp so don't know whether that could be out of range although I very much doubt it with a TSH of 4.18.

Take care all p.s marigold do you still get migraine aura ?

  20. Hi Barry, sorry you had migraine aura, horrible things they are. I've had about 5 episodes in the last month. I seem to get clusters of them and then they go away for about 3 months. Mine also last about 20 mins. I still get scared when they happen, even after years of having them. Not had any for a few days so hoping they have gone for a while. I think you are right about them happening when you've got too much on, I do avoid certain foods though that seem to trigger them. At least you know you're not hyper. Take care and hope you can slow down soon.

This is just a quick post, will catch up with everyone later, hope you are all ok.

    Bess xx
