I am truly sorry for the the two other writers who lost family members down to cholangiocarcinoma. It came as a terrible shock to our family. My father-in -law had overcome bowel cancer about five years ago, since then he lost his wife last year. He was finally recovering from the loss when he started to feel unwell. At first the doctors thought it was a gall stone blocking the bile duct. After two scopes they decided that it wasn't a gall stone but a tumour. We were told that they could put in a stent to allow the liver and gall bladder to function normally. Unfortunately, two days after having the first stent placed, he was off to have another stent put in. In the two weeks that this has happened, he has gone down hill terribly. He has been given three weeks to live which has shocked us all beyond belief! Although he is 86, before this he was driving, doing his own shopping and cooking. We did notice some weight loss but thought that this might be down to his cooking. We even took turns cooking for him. He has finally been released from hospital for hospice care at home. He is sleeping a lot of the time and his legs and feet are terribly swollen. He hasn't had any problem with itching even though he is very jaundiced. We just want to be able to do everything to make sure he is comfortable. The doctors have told us that this is not a painful form of cancer. We have also noticed that at times he gets very confused. If anyone can offer advise or suggestions, they would be very welcome. We want to make sure that he does not suffer in any way.
