  1. My father had a stroke in july this year and was put on simvasstatin 40mg although his cholesterol is not high. He has had terrible pains in both his legs, buring cramps and muscle spasms that stop him sleeping. He is really getting fed up. He went to his GP who said it couldnt be the medication. What can he do now??

  2. Sorry, my reply was mis-registered as 17/12/2006 Entry No 6.

If your father has painful, swollen ankles it could be gout, best

tackled by avoiding purine-containing foods, with excellent advice ONLY available from Wellington, New Zealand web-site. (GOUT search.)

(Cutting out shellfish, peas and baked beans worked for me !)

Alternatively, if he hasn't had one, get a fasting blood sugar test,

he may be suffering from early onset Type 2 diabetes, which is rarely detected by routine blood and urine tests. Again, a drastic change of

diet could help, with drugs producing allergic reactions, as for me.
