Labyrinthitis

  1. My wife has been in bed with this for 2 weeks now. She has not been able to stand unaided for that time. This is her first attack and she has been seen at home by three doctors. She has medication mut it does not seem to do much. She has bad head and neck aches which the puts down to muscle spasms from keeping her head still to avoid the dizziness. Has anyone else had it this severely or is this normal?

  2. Having sufferd with labyrinthitis on two seperate occasions, I can sympathise with your wife. My attacks came on very suddenly and were extremely frightening and disabling. Like your wife, I was unable to stand unaided,so was confined to bed. GP could only prescribe tablets for the nausea, but not able to help with the severe dizziness. Dizziness was causing the nausea,so tablets weren't much help. Both my attacks lasted about four days. I think arthritis in my neck is a contributory factor and, as stupid as it sounds, giving my head a sharp turn both ways seemed to help

I'm sure it will pass (2 weeks must seem like an eternity to her) . If I'm not mistaken,I think there is manipulation of the head that a doctor can do to help. I hope she'll be better soon. .

  3. Thanks - Our doctor has shown me the exercises and massages but until she can sit up these are difficult.
