INGUINAL HERNIA

  1. I was diagnosed in January 2011 with a Hernia.

I hoped the pain would go away but it didn,t.

I decided to have the Hernia repaired on the NHS.

As the date got near I tried many different excuses

to back out but my wife did not buy any of them.

I was very frightened on the morning of the operation

but also in a lot of pain.

The surgeon examined me just before the operation and found

I had a second Hernia on the other side.

He offered to do both at the same time by Laparoscopic [Key hole]

    surgery.

I was surprised how calm I felt in the operating theatre [I thought I would panic], the staff were excellent throughout.

The operation went well and I had one night in hospital.

I took pain killers for a few days and had little pain after about a week.

Six weeks later I feel in good shape ,I have no pain at all.

I am glad I got over my fear of having the operation.

If I got another Hernia I would definately have it repaired.

Do not suffer the pain go and have it repaired ,its well worth it!

  2. Hi, as there are so few women that have had their hernias diagnosed and I am considering surgery could you possibly tell me what type of hernia you had and how it was dealt with ie mesh or stitching. Is everything still fine. Were you active if so can you everything and more now. I have read these horror stories about nerve entrapment and more pain after the surgery and am getting worried, maybe thats why you were worried. Anything would be appreciated.
